Requirements
The EFLC Level One: Emotional Intelligence & Energy Mastery is an immersive training where you’ll learn to coach individuals alongside a horse, with guidance and mentoring as you progress. To apply and be accepted into the program, you must meet the following criteria:
- One horse to partner with (two is preferred) for practice sessions.
- Confident ground-based horse handling skills.
- Ability to participate in Zoom calls, download documents, and view online videos in the membership area.
- Be ready to learn, deepen your relationship with horses, and gain confidence as you guide others with horses.
- A calling to guide others through transformational experiences with horses.
- Openness to mentorship, including your inner work, release of outdated patterns, and personal growth.
- Readiness to commit to a 10-week professional training journey.

While not required, many applicants choose to book a call with Kathy after submitting their application. With over 30 years of experience in coaching, energy healing, and equine-facilitated learning—and having interviewed thousands of individuals over the past two decades—Kathy brings deep insight into the spiritual and practical path of working with horses. How is The Coaching with Horses: Emotional Intelligence and Energy Mastery – (EFLC Level One) professional training program different than other programs? This is a question I am often asked, and the answer is deeply personal. For more than 30 years, I have been learning from horses, teaching with horses, and allowing my own herd to guide the evolution of this work. Along the way, I have written three books—Hope from the Heart of Horses, Horse Spirits Speak, and Life Lessons from the Heart of Horses—and created two Oracle Card Decks inspired by the wisdom horses have generously shared with me.
What I teach is not simply a collection of techniques or exercises. It is a way of being with horses, people, and life itself. The horses have taught me to look beyond the obvious, listen more deeply, trust intuition, and recognize the subtle energy patterns that exist between horses and humans. Throughout this training, I invite you to develop these same capacities while building a strong foundation for facilitating meaningful experiences with horses.
I do not believe comparison is the most effective way to choose a teacher or a training program. Comparison often pulls us away from our inner knowing. Instead, I encourage you to notice what happens inside of you as you explore this work. Do you feel inspired? Curious? Called forward?
The EFLC Training Program has evolved over more than 23 years as I have taught students throughout the world. While the methods and tools are important, the deepest learning occurs as you begin integrating the Way of the Horse into your daily life.
How long has this program been taught? The Academy for Coaching with Horses EFLC Training Programs have been taught for more than 23 years.
During that time, hundreds of students from around the world have transformed their lives, deepened their relationships with horses, and learned how to help others heal, grow, and thrive through equine-guided experiences. The program continues to evolve as new insights emerge, yet its foundation remains the same: honoring the wisdom of horses, developing authentic connection, and learning how to create meaningful experiences that support transformation for both humans and horses.
What if I am new to this body of work? This program was designed to support both experienced horse professionals and those who are newer to equine-guided learning.
You will learn the foundational principles, safety considerations, facilitation processes, and practical skills necessary to begin this work with confidence. Along the way, you will also engage in your own journey of personal growth and self-discovery. Most importantly, you will learn to approach horses from a place of authentic partnership and mutual respect while developing your emotional intelligence, energetic awareness, and ability to guide others in meaningful experiences.
What if I am already a seasoned equine learning facilitator? Many students who join the EFLC Level One Training have previously studied other equine learning, coaching, or facilitation models. What they often discover is that this program offers a deeper understanding of energy, intuition, emotional intelligence, trauma-informed facilitation, and the horse’s role as guide and teacher. Students learn how to create safe and effective containers for growth, strengthen their coaching presence, deepen their intuitive awareness, recognize energetic patterns, and better understand the messages horses are offering throughout a session. Many experienced facilitators report that integrating these principles transforms their work in ways they never anticipated.
How will the program change my relationship with my horse? One of the most rewarding aspects of this training is the transformation that often occurs between students and their horses. I believe that becoming a skilled facilitator begins with doing our own work and developing a deeper awareness of the energy dynamics we share with horses. As you practice the principles taught throughout the program, your horse becomes more than a partner. Your horse becomes a teacher, a mirror, and a trusted guide. As students deepen their presence, communication, awareness, and connection, they often discover a level of relationship they never expected. Many tell me that the personal growth and partnership they experience with their horses becomes one of the most valuable aspects of the entire training.
Should I apply even though I can’t currently afford the investment? If you feel genuinely drawn to this work, I encourage you to apply. Over the years, I have watched many students hesitate because they were unsure how they would make the investment work. Flexible payment plans are available, and often new possibilities emerge once someone takes the first step and begins exploring what is possible. If you are uncertain, a conversation with me may help you clarify your next step. Sometimes the path forward becomes visible only after we begin walking toward it.
I am intimidated and feel a mix of fear, vulnerability, and nervousness as I read about the program and consider a conversation with Kathy. Should I proceed forward? In my experience, it is completely normal to feel a mixture of excitement, vulnerability, fear, and anticipation when considering something that could change your life. I encourage you to trust the calling of your heart more than the fear that asks you to stay small. Working with horses in this way often becomes an initiation into a new way of being—one that is grounded in authenticity, awareness, presence, and horse wisdom. A conversation with me is simply a conversation. There is no pressure. Often, these discussions create clarity, encouragement, and an energetic opening that helps people better understand what is calling them forward.
What is included in the program? The program consists of ten comprehensive modules designed to support both personal growth and professional development.
Included are instructional videos, audio teachings, client worksheets, step-by-step protocols, transcripts of live sessions, recorded demonstrations, meditations, sample coaching scripts, and study guides. All materials are housed in a private members-only area that you can access at any time for one year. In addition, all weekly mentoring calls are recorded and made available for future review.
How much time will I need each week to learn this material and practice with my horses? I recommend setting aside 6–8 hours per week to fully engage with the program. This allows you time to watch the tutorials in each module, complete the exercises, practice with your horses, and integrate what you are learning.
How many people are in your program? I intentionally keep the live mentoring groups small because I have found that meaningful learning occurs through genuine conversation, personal attention, and deep exploration of the horses’ teachings. Live mentoring calls typically include 5–8 students. This allows me to address individual questions, support each student’s growth, and help participants integrate the material in a practical, meaningful way.

Does Kathy do one-off coaching sessions? Yes. In addition to teaching and mentoring students, I offer private, one-hour coaching sessions by phone. These sessions are designed for individuals seeking deeper clarity, guidance, support, or personal transformation. Additionally, I can provide animal communication and mediumship.
