Taken Directly from the book Horse Spirits Speak. The following is communication from the Horse Spirits and transcribe by Kathy. This is the voice of the horses . . .
Question: Do you (horses) like to be ridden?
Answer: Throughout history, we have been creatures of community and service. We were not built to carry riders but have allowed it. Long ago we procreated naturally and roamed the land freely keeping our muscles strong and bodies in good shape. Each stallion and mare would sense and choose their best match to maintain genetically congruent herds.
Of course, as time went on, humans started to control these natural processes of our lives to eliminate or enhance certain traits and features. We have a higher consciousness and have created superior herds long before human interaction, so felt this was silly and unnecessary, but chose to go along with it in order to belong and survive. The outcome was genetic modification that was oftentimes unbeneficial. Some of us lost strength, muscle mass, bone function, and were even different shapes and sizes. Not wanting to let humans down we still allow them to ride but are really in a great deal of pain on the inside.
When it comes to the question “Do horses like to be ridden?” the answer is not that simple. We want to serve and embrace a community between human and horse, but once the discomfort is more than we can bear we might have to not so nicely communicate that. We prefer to frolic in open pastures and in nature with our friends instead of being confined and schooled so much that we lose our joy. We are more willing to carry humans on our backs when our needs are met.
We need you to be observative, and aware. If you see a horse that looks unhappy, chances are that horse is in fact unhappy. There must be a balance, we are not machines, but living, breathing entities with a spirit that needs care and understanding. Give us space, food, love, and appreciation and we will willingly and happily take you on our back.
Would you like to increase your capacity to listen to the whispers from horses?
