Horses have the admirable quality of always remaining fully congruent and authentic in their interactions with herd members and humans alike. As we open our hearts and minds to their wisdom, we can learn to emulate the horses’ behavior and way of being in the world. We learn to receive their feedback and utilizing their innate ability to interpret the body language and emotions we convey as a means to truly see who we are and also how to embody who we want to become. The horses offer us biofeedback in the most genuine and powerful way that changes us at a profound and often cellular level. Using the wisdom of HORSE, you can expand our consciousness and embrace your authentic self to experience coming home to YOU.
- Are you ready to experience the healing potential and power between horse and human?
- What would it be like for you to experience an authentic connection with Horse in a retreat setting with like-minded companions?

If you are new to this type of work, you will have the opportunity to experience Horse in a way that you may not have previously. Past clients have left with powerful experiences that have positively influenced their everyday life. Be ready to receive revelations from horse, experience tears of recognition and joy, have your heart opened and leave inspired!
What if I am already a professional in this field?
Many individuals who are already certified, or have taken training courses with other teachers in the equine based learning field, attend Kathy’s programs. The deep, body-centered, heart-based approach facilitated through the use of the Mind Body Method will be reflected in the sessions offered. As a professional in the field, you will have the opportunity to advance your skill set, gather new concepts and ideas to support your work, and meet other professionals in related areas of work.
What makes The Coaching with Horses Retreat different?
Attendance is very limited
This year the group will be smaller than previous years, giving you an exclusive opportunity to interact with and get to know the horses and the facilitators and other attendees. There will be time to ask questions, process your experiences and have valuable time to unwind and reset your entire being for the New Year.
True Experiential Presentations
Our facilitators will not only be offering you the insight and knowledge of their specialty within the EFLC world, but will also be sharing an actual experience, including horses, with you. Our new format with limited attendance ensures several equine-based learning sessions will have only 5-6 people and you will personally get to participate in most of these experiences with a very hands-on and intimate learning session. Each morning and afternoon there will be different breakout sessions to choose from.
Qualified and Experienced Presenters
Kathy personally selects all facilitators for this event to ensure a strong, grounded, and authentic team to hold the space, together, as a collective herd. Most of the presenters are previous graduates of The Academy for Coaching with Horses. Each one will provide a high quality and insightful experience for you. We find that regardless if you are new to the work or you are a facilitator in your own right, dropping into horse time creates the opportunity for you to move to your next platform or level of growth and expression.

The fifth annual Academy for Coaching with Horses gathering provides you with an all-inclusive retreat setting surrounded by a herd of over 100 horses. A very casual and personal atmosphere allows for continual interaction and facilitates authentic connections between both participants and presenters. Gatherings and activities function as ideal catalysts to encourage friendships and support the spiritual motivation behind the entire event.

A note from Kathy . . .
I am very proud to be offering The Fifth Annual ACWH Retreat. I have been blessed with the ACWH Graduates who have generously shared their time and energy with the common desire and goal to move the profound work with Horse forward in the world; changing not only how people live their lives but also how they see and understand Horses and all animals as sentient intelligent beings. This year’s team will also be of the same high caliber with an earnest desire to have the collective come together with a common goal of raising consciousness.
The theme for this year’s retreat I have shaped to be very personal for each individual. Years ago I had a shamanic journey where I went back in time and sat with Sitting Bull and his white horse at a fire before he was taken from his tribe and put into jail. He gave me absolute clarity that I am here to guide people back to their true authentic self and to how they can be of greatest service to others. This journey was powerful beyond measure and solidified the path that I had, at that time, already started. My desire to help others become a true aligned expression of their authentic self has served many individuals and groups through my last 26 years of life coaching and 16 years of working with the horses. I hope to serve you this January 2020.
I strive each year to shape this program according to the feedback we receive from past participants. This year attendees will experience every unique session offered by the team of facilitators that I have hand-selected. The retreat will also be smaller in size, allowing a maximum of 24 participants to ensure plenty of time for processing, sharing, digesting and experiencing the teaching of the horses. Of course, the other yummy experiences such as morning movement, massages, and a Ritual Ride in the desert will be available to you as well.
It is my wish and intention that you gain great clarity about your gifts, how to own them with confidence, and how to move forward in the world being of service to others, Horse and Mother Earth.
Each and every highly qualified presenter will support you in this process. You will leave the retreat a different person, feeling centered, filled with possibility, richness in your heart and soul, and having made friends – often life-long friends, with like-minded individuals.
Thank you for your desire to be true to your self and to be of service in your own special one of a kind way.
5th Annual Retreat Presentations and Workshops
(All Participants Will be Able to Attend All Presentations and Workshops Offered)
Retreat Opening – Sunday Evening
Horse as Guide: Coming Home to your True Self with Kathy Pike
Horses have always been a source of inspiration and beauty for humans. Simply watching them graze in an open field can invite relaxation to our body. Witnessing a herd of horses run through the hills ignites a sense of freedom and longing for a deep connection to the pure power that resides within us. Two horses grooming on a hazy summer day quiets our mind and washes the heart with a soft glow of the pure energy of harmony. A rearing stallion simultaneously evokes trepidation, fear and our deepest secrets, based in reserved fierceness and conviction. Horses, with just their natural presence, connect us more deeply to nature and simplicity, inviting us on a journey into our authentic self. Horses guide us to our purpose, passion, clarity and enthusiasm for our life path. There is no better creature than a horse to reflect back to you what needs to be cleared, where your true inspiration lies, your feelings of connection and passion and how to connect deeply to your heart’s greatest desire.
Join Kathy Pike during the opening evening of our 5th Annual Retreat as she guides you through the way of the horse, starting your journey with Horse as Guide: Coming Home to your True Self. Explore how and where conditioning penetrates and shapes us, forcing us to live lives that are not true to our path. Learn how to finally shift out of that conditioning and back into your true inner wild sense of self.
The opening evening will prepare you for all live segments where you will be working directly with the horses for the remainder of the retreat. Enjoy Kathy’s stories of how horses teach and guide humans, experience a guided meditation to bring you more directly to your life’s vision and utilize key points and distinctions to further your commitment of your passion and purpose as expressed by your true self.
Retreat Workshops – Monday and Tuesday
Horses and Humans Healing Together; Using Bach Flowers to Support Emotional Clearing and Spiritual Growth
Horses are generous and often give us their hearts and presence unconditionally. During equine-guided learning sessions, horses may become the masters of holding space for humans. However, emotional and spiritual stress can happen. Many horses employed for equine facilitated learning sessions are developing their ability to process and release the energy that can arise in an equine session, stressful situations in their environment, or within their herd. A new horse in a herd may be in trauma from the sudden changes of losing their previous herd. Herd members may also mourn when a member dies. When horses are living in the wild, they forage for the needed minerals and plants to aid their body back to good health. Today’s horses, however, generally live on pasture that consists primarily of grass, or worse, a dry paddock.
How do we support our horses in keeping spiritually fit? Bach Flower Remedies are a simple and very effective way to offer your horse the essence of a plant they cannot find in their domesticated environments. Not harmful in any way, these remedies are the best first aid kit you can use to support your working herd on a mental, emotional and spiritual level. You too can also be greatly supported by these essences and what each particular essence is calling you to change and move beyond. An essential part of your path to passion and purpose is clearing old emotional patterns to embrace the new. Join Kathy Pike as she takes you through the steps of understanding the Bach Flowers. The Sacred Heart Space of Possibility with Horse
In the sacred circle of the round pen, horse invites you to step into the mystery of what may be possible on your path. To be seen and held energetically by a horse allows you to experience genuine connection, heart-felt support, and a deeper level of personal awareness and emotional intelligence, leading you to your authentic self.
Horses connect to and understand the members of their herd through sensing the energy (or what humans call emotion) that each herd member is expressing. Horses respond to the coherent heart space of others, as well as any incongruent expressions of energy. We too have this capacity; however, humans routinely ignore this special superpower.
During the Sacred Heart Space of Possibility with Horse, you will practice the art of being more “horse-like” during several reflective round pen sessions with a horse. Each participant will experience mind-body centering tools and heart-opening practices. You will also dive deeper during an individual coaching session with a horse. Through exploring your inner landscape of sensations and feelings, you may discover what energetic patterns and habits are holding you back from your true self and purpose. You may also discover intuitive ways of knowing that have been there all along for you to access, opening you up as an acoustical, horse-like being.
You will also gain vital understanding about how you create heart coherence and manage your energy in relationship to others as you hold sacred space during multiple human-horse interactions. Experience each session through your own heart lens, thereby having multiple opportunities to embrace the horse as a teacher, guide, and mirror. Experience the power of Horse to move you to new levels of energetic and emotional awareness and understanding! Presented by . . .

Gaining Personal Power with Horse during Your Journey of Purpose
Truth is Power! A horse is a perfect teacher for understanding power, as they are the totem animal of power in Native American traditions. The Native American tradition also beckons us to find our sense of balanced power while cultivating our authentic self.
All aspects of the self (mind, emotions, body, and spirit) affect our power and journey. What part of your life journey do you struggle with? What blocks you from being of service to others at the level you desire? The nature of Horse, in the present moment as a prey animal, is to teach us to take responsibility for self, open to our full potential in life, raise our energy vibration, and be powerful spiritual warriors.
Experience partnership with a horse by your side as you take a journey that represents your purpose, vision, and desires. Align with more of your whole being as you lead and listen to your horse, giving you a true sense of connection. As you explore interesting encounters along the way, Horse will teach you where you lose power and what helps you to gain it back. By the end of our time together, you will have identified your obstacles in life and how to get beyond them, creating ample opportunity, confidence, and energy for a wonderful future.
Awaken and claim your personal power with Horse, so you can live the life you dream! Presented by . . .

Guided by Horse: Grounding A Clear Vision for Life through Communion with Horse
We are all on an amazing wild journey of life that occasionally throws us curve balls that disrupt our sense of flow and harmony and leaves us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, off balance and lost. However, this does not have to be true. Although horses are known to be reactive, they also can demonstrate great strength in being present and grounded when other herd members are stressed or reactive.
Often to gain clarity about our path and purpose we must quiet our mind and access our higher self, guides or horse ancestors for vital information and insight to support our path on earth. When working directly beside a horse, breathing and feeling into the present moment, we are guided more deeply and profoundly to what is right and appropriate for us. It is rumored that many a king would go to his horse to consult about the upcoming battle or direction he was to take his country. During those times he would quiet his mind and listen deeply to the wisdom of the horse.
Held by horse within the sacred desert landscape you have ample time to consult your higher wisdom as the horse leads the way. Through a quiet awakening process expand into a heighten clarity of purpose and life vision and reinforced commitment to your path. During this program, you will experience profound communion time with a horse that will help you to access presence, deep grounding and a sense of balance and standing tall that you can then bring back to your everyday life where you navigate disruption and transitional times. Feel the horse’s unparalleled ability to expand your heart and deepen your connection to yourself, others and the world around you. Guided by horse, you learn to use the challenges of life as stepping-stones to a higher path while staying true to your core values and your spirits highest purpose. Presented by . . .

How to Start a Non-Profit for Horses
Laurie Higgins-Kerley was profoundly changed when a small herd of horses at her family ranch assisted her in healing her grief stricken state after the loss of her husband. The horses were a salve for her broken heart. In return, she felt a strong desire to help horses in need. Her family ranch, Dove Creek, became a non-profit rescue for those horses that needed a second chance and time to heal from the hand that life had dealt them. It didn’t take her long to gather support and form a board of directors, file a non-profit certification, and get to work! Now, seven years later Dove Creek Equine Rescue has helped many horses. Laurie will offer her story and important information to know when starting a non-profit, which not only requires an enormous passion but business skills and strategy.
