The Diamond Sparkles of Fall

There are certain things in the world that fill me with peace and restore me on a cellular level, the deepest part of my being. The first, of course, is horses. The ocean, in any state of expression awes me. And last but not least, aspen trees, yellow from the cool autumn nights, elevate me to a new vibration. You can imagine the joy and deep gratitude I feel when I get to experience two of my favorite things at the same time!
Last weekend I was gifted with that. For two days I rode horses through the golden sparkling aspens in the high mountains of Colorado. The afternoon sun soaked through the leaves, filtering golden light onto the flowers and shrubs in the mountain meadows. Lavender asters scattered around the blazing red scrub oak and faded flaxen grasses. The river, at its lowest of the season, turned the air with fresh ions. Trout swam slowly in the transparent pools along the banks, soaking in the last warm waters of early fall days. Before long, crisper winds will begin to flow from the mountains down into the valley.
Cherry, one of my favorite horses, was relaxed and peaceful. We rode bareback and simply walked and trotted along. In no hurry for the day to end, I enjoyed her steady strides and her lovely solid back. Occasionally my hand would slide down to stroke her neck, the changes in her coat flickering against the palm of my hand. My mind drifted to all of the beauty around me and I reflected on how much my life has changed.
Years ago, as a seasonal employee, I would spend countless hours in the woods during the fall season. Sometimes it felt like fall would go on for months and months as I traveled to different areas of altitude to enjoy different foliage. Now, as I run an international EFLC training business and manage a facility of my own, my days are packed with things to “do.” Days off are worth gold and every moment is precious.
I do not live with regret, or even the desire to return to the level of personal freedom of my twenties. What I know to be true is that I have found my calling and that God, the universe, and spirit gave me all that I have been asking for. My life is rich with experiences, I am supporting people to expand awareness and consciousness through understanding and being with horses, and I travel throughout the world. The days of youth are far behind me. The days of contribution are here with me now.
When I can find time to be in the woods with the animals, my breath becomes deep and I become present as I hear, touch, feel and sense the every changing beauty of nature that is a part of me.
After riding, I dove naked, into a crystal clear mountain pond. I did not last long as the deep cold waters gave my body a jolt. Once back to shore I stood drying in the sun. Every cell of my being screamed—I AM ALIVE!
Two days of riding in the golden aspens and my insides sparkled like diamonds.
Remember to see and sense deeply the subtle changes of the trees, bushes, grasses, flowers and your horse. Breathe deeply into the moment and smell the changes. Take a chance and jump in naked. NOW is life.

2012 EFLC Apprenticeship Training Programs
Currently, we are taking applications for the 2012 EFLC Approved Instructor Apprenticeship program. This is our most comprehensive training program, and includes Levels One through Four of the EFLC Training. Level One will be held February 5-12, 2012 at the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Arizona.
