The 2012 season has started off with a lot of energy.  In January we had a group of 13 men in a leadership program here at the ranch.  The horses had been on holiday for two months and showed great excitement and curiosity in working with a group of all men.  Corazon once again showed his capacity as a teacher when at the end of the day he worked with the entire group of men.  It was wildly successful! Following the men’s leadership program, we heading to Tucson to kick off this year’s EFLC Apprenticeship program.  Rita Bledsoe and Mindy Hagens support all of the participants as they dove into the wisdom of horse and learned how to be more horse like.

The horses were amazing as usual.  During one session, a young lady watched her horse outside the round pen and declared her heart’s desire with her horse is to “have a friend” for the sake of “experiencing true connection.”  As soon as she said this her horse, named Jager, walked over looked her straight in the eye and laid down on his legs, still looking at her.  She entered the round pen and he watched, waiting.  My heart softened with tenderness as I witnessed Jager watching her every move making sure to not suddenly move and hurt her.  He then gently allowed his neck and head to slide onto the hot sand. He proceeded to fall asleep as the young lady rubbed his belly and neck. When we debriefed the session, I asked her what the horse had offered her, she replied: “The belief that there is still good in the world.”  Jager was a drug running horse from Mexico. The wranglers had just told me that morning that Jager doesn’t have any horse friends in his herd.

I am excited to see what other wonderful teachings, insights, and expansions horse may offer humans this year!
