EFLC Level One Instructor Training
(Includes the Two Day Dance of Authenticity Workshop)
February 5-12, 2012

This program makes your travel plans very easy.  The only thing you need to do after you register is to book your flight.  This package includes everything (airport shuttles, all meals, lodging, taxes, gratuities, EFLC training program, and additional ranch activities).

Everyone who attends this program must stay at the ranch.  Your evenings can be spent making new friends, enjoying the peace of the desert or getting a massage!  There is one afternoon off for ranch rides.

Check in Sunday, we meet at 5:00pm. Program ends Saturday at 5:00pm, and your lodging includes Saturday night. Check out on Sunday morning; stay for breakfast if you wish.

The Level One is the first step of your journey to become a facilitator. The Level One teaches you many new tools and skills to integrate!  It is one of our most popular programs.

Follow your dreams, and I hope to see you standing next to a horse in 2012!

Last weekend I was gifted with that. For two days I rode horses through the golden sparkling aspens in the high mountains of Colorado. The afternoon sun soaked through the leaves, filtering golden light onto the flowers and shrubs in the mountain meadows. Lavender asters scattered around the blazing red scrub oak and faded flaxen grasses. The river, at its lowest of the season, turned the air with fresh ions. Trout swam slowly in the transparent pools along the banks, soaking in the last warm waters of early fall days. Before long, crisper winds will begin to flow from the mountains down into the valley.

Cherry, one of my favorite horses, was relaxed and peaceful. We rode bareback and simply walked and trotted along. In no hurry for the day to end, I enjoyed her steady strides and her lovely solid back. Occasionally my hand would slide down to stroke her neck, the changes in her coat flickering against the palm of my hand. My mind drifted to all of the beauty around me and I reflected on how much my life has changed.

Years ago, as a seasonal employee, I would spend countless hours in the woods during the fall season. Sometimes it felt like fall would go on for months and months as I traveled to different areas of altitude to enjoy different foliage. Now, as I run an international EFLC training business and manage a facility of my own, my days are packed with things to “do.” Days off are worth gold and every moment is precious.

I do not live with regret, or even the desire to return to the level of personal freedom of my twenties. What I know to be true is that I have found my calling and that God, the universe, and spirit gave me all that I have been asking for. My life is rich with experiences, I am supporting people to expand awareness and consciousness through understanding and being with horses, and I travel throughout the world. The days of youth are far behind me. The days of contribution are here with me now.

When I can find time to be in the woods with the animals, my breath becomes deep and I become present as I hear, touch, feel and sense the every changing beauty of nature that is a part of me.

After riding, I dove naked, into a crystal clear mountain pond. I did not last long as the deep cold waters gave my body a jolt. Once back to shore I stood drying in the sun. Every cell of my being screamed—I AM ALIVE!

Two days of riding in the golden aspens and my insides sparkled like diamonds.

Remember to see and sense deeply the subtle changes of the trees, bushes, grasses, flowers and your horse. Breathe deeply into the moment and smell the changes. Take a chance and jump in naked. NOW is life.

2012 EFLC Apprenticeship Training Programs
Currently, we are taking applications for the 2012 EFLC Approved Instructor Apprenticeship program. This is our most comprehensive training program, and includes Levels One through Four of the EFLC Training.  Level One will be held February 5-12, 2012 at the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Arizona.

Are you ready to take a break and expand your life? We blend the EFLC work with ground work as well as riding during a full week retreat in the Sonoran Desert. A name has finally bubbled up for the ranch that feels perfect to me: Moon Shadow Ranch. The name embraces the light, the dark, and those moments of true presence when we become one with all. We go deep and also enjoy a lot of laughter and expansion. This program includes riding – both in the desert and in the arena – with an emphasis on the integrated seat.

This Week’s Story

Please read this lovely story written by Nicole Andress, one of this year’s Apprentices from France. The story is about her experience with Corazon. Click here to download.

My dear friend and shamanic healer, Kate, sat with the group of participants inside the round pen, drumming steadily. Each participant had ceremoniously created their space with blankets and drawings in the sand.  They lay peacefully and trusting, allowing the beating of the drum and the rhythms of the horses’ hooves to carry them to the underworld.  I could feel the shifting. I could feel the travels begin, breath moving deeper, Moon slowing the pace.  We were all now entering another zone.  This is the zone where the participants could connect with their spiritual guides, animal totems, and seek wise counsel.

For twenty minutes, I with my herd and assistants circled and held space.  A hot jolt came into my heart and tears stung my eyes.  This space, the indoor arena at my new facility, allows complete privacy for creative and spiritual expression.  My herd and I were finally free to explore deep levels of consciousness without distractions. We have arrived. I glanced back with affection to see each of them, walking, holding space, fully present.

We continued to circle until I felt the shift and the lifting of energy.  We were beginning the journey back out.  I deliberately changed the direction and we circled clockwise, aiding in bringing everyone back to earth time, present time.

Slowly, each participant rose and moved to the horse they were drawn to and painted the energy that was emerging onto the horses to honor the horse, the way of the horse, and the spirit of Horse. It was a powerful space, pregnant with possibilities and openings. Once completed, we all then completed our journey with a quiet walk to the lake.

It was not until the next day that the participants were ready to share their experiences.  They were mighty powerful and vivid with totem animals, landscapes, horses, colors and messages.

Sharing their experiences took me back to my own “first” shamanic journey with horses that I experienced years ago.  I would like to share this journey with you.

Sylvie enjoys grazing.  The brightly painted body demonstrates the energy and life of the journeys she helped to facilitate.

Through all of the programs we have experienced a deep connection with the land and all of the wild life around it. Our lake offers abundant bird life and brings a serene energy to the land at the farm.  A mindfulness walk to the lake was a perfect ending to the journey.

A Tribute to the Majestic Cajun

With deep gratitude and sadness last month I said good bye to one of the masters of this work.  Cajun, the horse who elicited heart-felt song from a client is now resting in deep peace.  We also helped to rehab his injured leg two summers ago.  Unfortunately he recently re-injured the same leg. Cajun was a master in this work, and a horse who touched many lives.  He was  loved my many children, carried heavy loads at times, and opened many hearts.  He touched more people than he had spots. May Cajun fly free with the ancestors.  I will call on him in my prayers and during programs.

I gathered fragments of awareness enough to remember I was in my new home and that there is a train track in the distance. The early hours of the morning offered a glimmer of light. I checked in with my horses energetically. They were all safe and sound in the big pasture far away from the house. I dropped back into a deep sleep.

An hour or so later, the sounds of the morning began to fill the house. I rose from my bed at 5:30 to greet my little dog and glanced out my windows that face the west. Scanning the full view of the whole property, my blurry eyes caught the bodies of two dark horses. They registered as Piper and Cantata, two horses that came to work in the program. Then, a grey horse stood behind them. I looked again, what was going on? It suddenly dawned on me that Piper and Cantata were actually in the mid-property paddock.

Once I rubbed the morning haze from my eyes, I understood what I was really seeing. The six horses in the pasture next door had broken free. They were over exploring our teaching area. Throughout the week three bays, a paint, a grey and a little palomino Morgan had stood at the fence digesting our every move and session at the round pen. They had boldly left their green pasture to come explore our area. It was as if they wanted to have their hooves on the ground and their bodies in the space of our experience.

Since I have been here I had sensed that at least three of the horses next door wanted to come and be a part of the program. They are curious about this new paradigm of the horse being the teacher for the human. Once broken free of their own green pasture, they could have chosen to eat all of the rich green grass surrounding our teaching area. Instead they stood in the sandy area where we had created, as a community and herd, grounding and presence. I giggled in delight. As I ventured out they came to me, smelling my sweatshirt, gazing into my eyes. I thanked them for the visit and escorted them back home. Offering to them the opportunity to work with us from their pasture space and some day… well who knows… maybe they can come teach in a program!

I have some very big news to share with you.  This past week has opened a door to an amazing opportunity, and I have found a farm in Longmont, Colorado that I believe will be a perfect setting for the EFLC work and the Coaching With Horses herd. I am so excited I can barely stand it! The horses have arrived as well, and came in nicely.  My soul is sad to leave the Carbondale area and all of the people and horses that I have grown to love there.  I had not anticipated leaving my community, however I have dropped right into another community where I have many friends.  Two of my co-facilitators live very close by.

Our new facility boasts amazing views, wide open pastures with ponds, both indoor and outdoor arenas, barns with stables and runs, and a lovely large home shaded by trees.  There are giant Cottonwoods surrounding the south east areas.  The house is magnificent– truly a unique house and is set up perfectly for the programs.  The main floor has two extra rooms with private baths– I will be renting those to program clients.  Program meeting space is also within the house.

The facility is located only 50 minutes to the Denver International Airport.  We will offer a country setting and we are also conveniently located to all of the needed amenities.  There are many local options for housing and transportation, so be sure to download a copy of our updated Program Travel Information.

Thank you to everyone who has been understanding and patient as your program location may have changed with this sudden move.  It all seems to be working out well!

The Dance of Authenticity Workshop and Level One training scheduled for May 28 will be the first group to be hosted on our new farm. I hope you all can come and see the property and experience the horses with us soon.  We will have many  new programs at this property since I have NO limitations!  The sky is not even the limit!

The Dance of Authenticity workshop is also part of the EFLC Level One Training Week, which is the foundation of all work taught by Kathy.  The Level One from September 17 to September 22 includes the workshop and four days of “train the trainer” instruction.  Click here to learn more about Level One.

We had started the closing ceremony at the last hour of the week. The ritual invites the spirit of horse to interact with each of us before we part ways to bring the wisdom of the horse ancestors back to our everyday worlds.

I picked up the Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D. on my way out to the round pen. The group was gathered and waiting. Inside the round pen stood Woody, a magnificent tall dark thoroughbred. Sensitive, generous, and fully-honest he had graced us several times with this keen awareness of the human spirit and intention. Woody came to edge of the round pen just as I fanned out the deck of cards in my hands. I asked him if there was a card he wanted the group to read. He reached his head over the railing and I brought the fan near his mouth. Down came his head and his teeth gripped three cards. He lifted them out and tossed them on the ground.

The wisdom on each card reminded us of the importance of our mental thoughts, inner knowing, and relationship to self and body as part of our journey to balanced power.

We then circled the outside of the round pen, passing the singing bowl and sharing our appreciation and closing thoughts. Woody walked and trotted around inside, stopping and checking in with each person. Halfway through the ritual, Woody’s long lanky legs slowly dropped to the soft sand, his body followed. Back and forth he rubbed his back into the sand, grunting with glee and release. Then upward he came and with a robust shake sand flew and poured back to the earth revealing his dark coat once again. The apprentices continue to pass the bowl and share their thoughts.

Suddenly, as a grand finale, Woody reared with ease and grace onto his back legs. His front legs reached high for the sky. As he kicked at the air his mighty powerful spirit filled the indoor arena. Not once, not twice, but three times Woody reared up, proud of his power and grace as if to say, “Stand tall and own your space. Know who you are.”

We walked together as a group to bring Woody back to his pasture. A strong sense of completion and harmony prevailed. We felt blessed. Now, a few weeks later, we all continue to tap into the power and magic of Horse, riding on their wings in the privacy of dreamland and offering their Wisdom to others by day.

EFLC Level One Training

This program can be taken by anyone who is feeling a deep calling to understand the healing and potential that horses offer.  The Level one is the first step toward obtaining the Associate Instructor status or Approved Instructor status with Kathy.  The Level One is the foundation for all of the work that Kathy teaches.  This program includes the above workshop.

Now, as an adult I have written a book (three books, actually). In addition my latest book Hope . . .from the Heart of Horses is now available in Dutch!

During the process of achieving my childhood desire, I have lost my youthful glee and joy of the creative process. I have not been looking at my books with pride and happiness. Instead, I have been caught up in all of the many details of marketing the books, building a business and caring for my animals.

This all changed last week. I threw a celebration party at Moon Run Ranch in Colorado. Our guests enjoyed sleigh rides around the frozen pond at dusk. The barn was warm and cozy with draped tables, flowers, and candles. As everyone arrived the barn filled with laughter, hugs, lots of people meeting and others reuniting. To be honest with you—this was a real stretch for me. I felt shy about having a party that was so much about me.

The next morning I had breakfast with my best friends. They congratulated me on celebrating myself and commented on how many people don’t do that. I did not allow myself to feel embarrassed or ashamed. Instead, I said— “Wasn’t that a blast!?!”

It has taken me some time to appreciate the gifts I offer others. Now that I am – it is so much fun! Life feels lighter. I realized that the more in love I can be with the gifts I have to offer – the more those gifts can be receive by others. The energy I hold has a profound affect on how others will receive! How can any one really receive the gifts I offer if I can’t receive me?

What might have been possible if Hallmark had declared a “Love Yourself” day? How would the world be different?

* What yummy experiences might happen for you if you loved you even more?
* What are your wonderful gifts that you offer the world?
* What do you naturally do that brings a positive light to others?
* What gives you joy and glee?
* What more can you appreciate about you?

Hug yourself. Have a little party. Get a massage. Go on a trip. Most of all…. love and appreciate yourself….it is a gift to everyone (including your four legged friends). The vibration of love makes everything yummy and expansive.

An Invitation
Every time I facilitate a two-day Dance of Authenticity workshop it is profound. The horses step into the work and provided perfect learning moments for each person.
