A Change in Season
ByA change in season brings in a time for reflection and realignment. The Rocky Mountain days are filled with sun and changing leaves, one of my favorites times to be outdoors. So much is happening . . .
2010 EFLC Apprentices Graduate!
Last week was a very busy week with the fourth Apprenticeship group finishing their yearlong program. I am trilled to know that these seven talented individuals will move out into the world to work with horses and humans in expanding consciousness. Congratulations to: Janis Charbeneau, Angie Deaver, Norma Hayhurst, Sandra J Howlett, Adrianne LaSalle, Rebekka Pertenbreiter and Cornelia Roulet.
We had such a powerful, deep, expansive and fun week together. Many thanks to my program assistant, Reggie Hausler, for all she contributed, and to Stephanie Brown who handled all of the logistics! Many thanks also to Cornelia Roulet for taking the lovely pictures shown below.
The quiet days following the program gave me a chance to reconnect with my herd:
Moon continues to be the older wise horse. I am always proud to be seated on his long strong back. As we climbed the hill behind my house the low sun’s beam flickered through the old growth pinon pine forest. Subtle and soft were the changes in the ground cover and low-lying shrubs at the top of the hill. Bright red rosehip pods contrasted with the sun washed leaves. After a week of work, Moon’s presence quiets my mind and brings me into my body and breath.
A highlight during the program was a profoundly deep Integrative Seated Session facilitated by Moon. His large body sways with rhythm that ignites the chakra centers in the human body bringing people deeply into their pelvic floor. With the opening comes a deep knowing and trusting of the flow life. Sylvie facilitated her first round pen sessions. Her gentle nature and calm presence brings to consciousness the deepest aspects of one’s psychological fear or doubts. Her physical body is robust with young power reflecting back one’s own search of their true inner self- a self that is free of the influence of others. Sylvie gave wonderful signs such as licking, chewing, and yawning that indicated she was connected with the energy that was shifting in the sacred circle.
Sylvie also carried a rider during the Integrative Riding Session. It was a lovely to see Adrianne LaSalle (see photo), an experienced barrel racer, willingly mount this horse and be completely open and vulnerable to see what she could learn about her Mind Body Connection in riding. Sylvie’s sensitivity matched with her calm mind makes her a perfect teacher for this process. I believe I got very lucky in adding Sylvie to the herd and I see many great years of riding and EFLC work with her.
Corazon has been out to pasture for about two weeks soaking up a holiday after his time riding with Emma during the summer. He seemed a bit dazed to be back at the ranch but settled in quietly. I let him be with the herd for most of the time knowing that he would come back in to the EFLC work soon. Cor offers such versatility and willingness as one day he did Horse Dancing sessions with the Apprentices and the next day offered deep healing in Reflective Round Pen sessions.
Cor has been through a lot of challenges and changes this summer. I felt lots of emotions flowing through him, none of which were completely clear to me. The day after the program, he finally approached me in the field—the moment I had been waiting for. We walked to the barn, I groomed him, and then I rode him bareback in the arena. He was absolutely lovely. We snuggled at the fence when I released him. When I walked back to the barn, I glanced over my shoulder to see him still standing, head over the fence, staring at me. He had missed our private moments together this summer. My horse was back with me.
Yesterday I enjoyed a glorious day driving Lilly with my boyfriend, Tim. You have seen Lilly before, as she was a star teacher in our Level Three in June. Lilly’s powerful hind end pulled us up the narrow dirt road toward the base of the mountain. She is as happy as can be as we transition from a walk to trot and back again. The light was soft and bright as it filtered through the marigold and lemon aspen leaves. The contrast of the evergreens created a sense of grounding and comfort. Hues of green and blues lay still on the bottom of the pond and we took advantage and dove into the crystal clear waters—the last swim of the summer.
And now fall, a time for coming back to the path after long days of frolicking. I am excited for my next adventure to Germany where I will teach Level Three for the European Apprentices.
I am sad to leave my herd during such a magnificent blossoming of fall, however I am sure that when I return, colors of burnt sienna, wheat and maize will warm my heart and fill my senses.
During every program I hear the horses. They are calling me and they are calling you . . . to be true to your heart and to live your one life fearlessly. The field of EFLC goes far beyond the single person or horse. It is changing perception and expanding consciousness. As you engage with horses in this way and raise your own vibration you cannot help but influence others to do the same.
